'Ides of March' Reviews: George Clooney & Ryan Gosling Make Corruption Sizzle

ryan goslingRyan GoslingIs it just me, or is Ryan Gosling absolutely everywhere lately? Earlier this year -- there he was in was Drive. Then, he was as handsome as ever in Crazy, Stupid, Love. And oh gosh, now every tabloid I open there he is snuggling with Eva Mendes (insert fit of jealousy, here). Good news for everyone who's just as obsessed with Gosling as me: his new movie, The Ides of March, comes out today in theaters!

Directed and written by George Clooney, this intense drama follows Gosling as a staffer on the campaign trail with front-runner presidential candidate Governor Mike Morris (played by Clooney). Throw in corrupt politics, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood, and oooh -- Leonardo DiCaprio as an executive producer -- and The Ides of March has box office smash written all over it.

But what do the critics think? Check out The Ides of March reviews after the jump:

Claudia Puig, USA Today:

Clooney has a keen eye for a good story. With this, his fourth turn as a director, he has chosen wisely.

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone:

Clooney knows how to ignite sparks and build momentum. And he hands the terrific Gosling an all-stops-out role that challenges him on every level -- his ravaged face traces the line from compromise to corruption. The Ides of March hits where it hurts.

Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times:

The movie's strength is in the acting, with Gosling once again playing a character with an insistent presence.

Christy Lemire, Associated Press:

Gosling radiates charisma, schmoozing and charming reporters and staffers with equal ease. But beneath that slick exterior, his character is a true believer.

I don't know about you, but I'm sold. Sounds like Clooney has once again proved he's a stellar director. Check out The Ides of March trailer, here:
