Lady Gaga’s Manager Wants Her Next Album to Be Free!

lady gagaLady Gaga's manager wants to make her third studio album free. As in, he doesn't want to charge fans a dime to buy her upcoming release. I guess that's great, but are people really paying for music still? I thought we all downloaded it illegally and for free anyway. Just me? OK never mind. We never had this conversation. Regardless, Gaga's manager, Troy Carter, wants to give away her album to anyone with a pair of ears, but something's holding him back.

Carter doesn't have the power to do that, so it just seems like he's leading us all on. Super lame, right?

He said:

If it was up to me, I’d give away the next album and put it on every handset that I can put it on, to get that scale. You can’t be scared to fail. Sometimes we’re going to get big results, and sometimes you learn a lesson, make an adjustment, and move on.

Did you guys catch those first few words he said? If it was up to me ... implying that it's not up to him, so really, why are we listening to this guy? He's getting our hopes up only to possibly let us down. Since he has no control over the situation, he should stop pandering.

That said, I could see Lady Gaga really fighting for her album to be gratis. She's said in the past that she doesn't mind that fans download her music for free (phew!) and that it would make more sense for an entire album to cost $0.99 than per song, so she's got a generous spirit and she understands that the more people who hear her music, the better. Greater exposure, if managed correctly, can lead to greater revenue.

Lady Gaga's working on her third album now to follow Born This Way. In all likelihood, I bet we'll have to pay for it. I don't know how many people it takes to make a record, but if Kim Zolciak has at least four different people working on that one "Tardy for the Party" song, then I bet Gaga's got gaggles of people who need to be paid to feed their families, etc. Only time will tell, though!

Do you think Lady Gaga's third album should be free? Why or why not?
