Kate Middleton Should Ignore Anna Wintour and 'Vogue'

kate middletonWhatever Anna wants, Anna gets. That's what Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour hopes, anyway. Apparently, she and her team are trying desperately to get Duchess Catherine to grace the cover of American Vogue for an upcoming issue. Anna is using famed photographer and friend of the royals, Mario Testino, as a pawn to persuade the newlywed Kate Middleton to agree to Anna's plan. So far, no good.

Testino may be close to Will and Kate -- he shot their engagement photos -- but his influence might not be enough. The palace has to give their approval, which might difficult since, after all, Kate denied British Vogue when she was asked to be a part of their royal wedding issue.

Things aren't looking good, Anna ...

Diana Princess of Wales graced the cover of British Vogue four times: In 1981, 1991, 1994, and 1997. So it wouldn't be unheard of for Kate to be on the cover of British Vogue. In fact, it would be unusual if she wasn't. On the other hand, it would be new if Kate decided to pose for American Vogue, but something tells me that ain't gonna happen.

If Anna wants Kate to pose for her so badly, maybe she should work on her people skills. She's famously described the new Duchess saying:

There's nothing trashy or vulgar about her. She dresses her age and never looks out of place.

Hmm. Saying that someone isn't "trashy or vulgar" isn't necessarily a compliment. Clearly Anna isn't impressed with Kate as a style icon, or she would've commented on it. Instead she basically says that Kate is just fine.

So if the only thing the ice queen of style can say about you is that you're "appropriate," then, yeah, maybe you shouldn't cover her magazine. Kate should agree to British Vogue and forget to return American Vogue's phone calls. And believe me, it pains me to say that, because there's nothing I'd like more than reading about her in American Vogue, but Kate's got to be smart about this. She'd be walking into a terrifying trap if she agreed to Anna and she's better off sitting for her own country's fashion tome. With her love for English designers, and her love for her nation that's embraced her as a Duchess, I think it makes more sense that way.

Do you think Duchess Catherine should do American or British Vogue?
