Taylor Swift on 'True Blood' Really Bites (VIDEO)

taylor swiftOver my undead body! That was my initial reaction to the news that the Taylor Swift song "Haunted" will be featured in this week's episode of True Blood. Taylor Swift?! True Blood? The girl's got about as much of a dark side as Hello Kitty. As a bouquet of freshly-picked daisies. As a fluffy vanilla cupcake.

The worst thing about this unlikely pairing is that up until now, True Blood's soundtrack has been a spot-on auditory accompaniment. Jace Everett's "Bad Things" is without question one of the top 5 TV show theme songs of all time (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's recent, hard-edged cover of the tune rocks, too). Consider some of the other musical contributions: "Spellbound" by Siouxsie and the Banshees. Neko Case and Nick Cave doing "She's Not There." "Me and the Devil" by Gil Scott-Heron.

They really want to add Taylor "Forever & Always" Swift to this list of luminaries?!

Still, I hate to jump to conclusions, so I grudgingly decided to give "Haunted" a listen. Just in case.

My take on the track? Well ...I guess if somebody put a gun to my head and said, "Quick, you have to pick a Taylor Swift song for True Blood right now," I'd probably go with "Haunted." It's definitely more Truebie-friendly than, say, "The Story of Us." But sorry to say, I'm still not sold.

Apparently, Swift's "people" turned down True Blood when they first asked for permission to use the song (see, even they know it doesn't fit her image). But Taylor herself insisted that the song be included. So I guess that means she's a fan ... and I guess that makes her association with the show less odd. Or something.

I just hope she's the last sunny day pop star to be featured on the True Blood soundtrack for a good long time.

Do you think Taylor Swift's song "Haunted" works for True Blood?
