Miranda Kerr Chose Her Son's Name for the Sweetest Reason

Miranda Kerr and Orlando BloomCelebrities aren't exactly known for picking the best baby names. Oftentimes they're bizarre (Apple), or boring (Aleph), or even kind of cruel (Bear Blu). It's like they're out to find something so unique and original that all other sensibilities fall by the wayside. Yes, they're their kids, and they get to name them, fine, but it would be nice if more would take a cue from Miranda Kerr when it comes to baby naming.

When Kerr and her husband, Orlando Bloom, went to name their son, Flynn, they considered a lot more than just trying to be different. In fact, they named him after someone very important to Kerr -- her ex-boyfriend.

Flynn's full name is Flynn Christopher Blanchard Copeland Bloom, and Kerr's high school boyfriend was named Christopher Middlebrook. Sadly, he was killed in a car accident and will never meet the little boy named in memory of him. Kerr explained to Australia's Daily Telegraph:

Chris and I had been dating for two years. After he died, I wrote him a letter that said I hoped to name my first child after him in some way. I told Orlando, and he was the one who said he’d be happy to do that. Orlando’s a good guy.

What a lovely gesture. I love sentimental baby names that honor someone special in a person's life. In her recent book, Treasure Yourself, she talked about what he meant to her:

Although we were only young, we had both talked about spending the rest of our lives together. I felt as if my heart had been ripped from my chest and I didn’t know what to do. Chris' death taught me that the people who touch your life are always with you. It taught me that I have the choice to be grateful for the time I had with him instead of dwelling on losing him.

Many spouses wouldn't be cool with naming their child after their partner's former love, even if he or she was deceased, but as she said, Bloom is a good guy. Good for them, and now I love baby Flynn's name more than ever.

Would you be okay with your spouse wanting to name your child after one of his former loves?
