Can't Do Bonnaroo? How to Bring the Festival to You

bonnarooBonnaroo, the three-day musical festival that takes place each year in Manchester, Tennessee, starts this Thursday everybody! Arcade Fire, Eminem, and The Black Keys will be there in the Bonnaroo 2011 lineup, but I won't be in attendance. Nope. I would love to see all of these acts perform, but I don't like camping out with drunk kids in mud. I don't like getting pounded in crowded concert dance pits. I don't like subsisting off two-day-old burger patties that I scrounge up from the bottom of a leaky cooler. And I don't like that there is never any ketchup for said burger. Never.

So! I've decided this year to bring the Bonnaroo to me. No need to spend $1,000 on this music festival in backwoods Tennessee when I can spend $12.90 on iTunes, sit in a lawn chair in the comfort of my own backyard, and pretend like I'm there. Like my style? Here are 10 songs to download from 10 Bonnaroo artists.

  1. "Not Afraid" by Eminem. It's got over 243 million views on YouTube. Could all those people be wrong? No. The song rocks.
  2. "The Suburbs" by Arcade Fire. Appreciate that you're not in a crowded space with writhing fans as you listen to this song about the idyllic suburbs.
  3. "Ribs and Whiskey" by Widespread Panic. Sure, it's not off their latest album but come on. What's better than ribs and whiskey?
  4. "Wordless Chorus" by My Morning Jacket. It's one of my favorite songs. Hope that means something.
  5. Anything and everything from Girl Talk. Seriously, just pick a song and go with it; you won't be disappointed.
  6. "The Cave" by Mumford & Sons. I've listened to it about 12,000 times and I'm still not sick of it.
  7. "Paper Airplane" from Alison Krauss and Union Station. Sounds like summer.
  8. "God Willin & the Creek Don't Rise" by Ray LaMontagne. I like anyone with a beard and a voice.
  9. "Any Which Way" by the Scissor Sisters. God, I feel like dancing.
  10. "Tighten Up" by The Black Keys. I like to end any mix with a little bit of swagger. The Black Keys are perfect for this.

If you need me this weekend, I'll be out back with my headphones on.

What songs would you add to a Bonnaroo playlist?
