Taylor Lautner's Scary Stage Dad Gets Him Dumped

Twilight star Taylor Lautner is a hot item in Hollywood, thanks to his good looks, squeaky-clean reputation, and ability to randomly rip off his shirt and stand there with his abs rippling in the sun. Plus, he's got the whitest teeth on earth. What's not to like?

Well, apparently there's at least one skeleton in his tanned-and-handsome closet, because he's just been dropped by his publicist. In a surprising move, Robin Baum of Slate PR quit working for Lautner after only three months of being hired.

Slate PR is a high profile agency that represents a number of A-listers like Daniel Craig and Johnny Depp, so clearly they're in the business of working with big stars. It seems strange they'd dump a guy who's got both Breaking Dawn films and the upcoming Incarceron on the way, doesn't it?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the problem isn't with Lautner himself (at ease, Twihards)—it's his dad. His controlling, obnoxious stage dad.

Who knew Jacob Black was starring in his own personal version of Toddlers & Tiaras?

Rumor has it that Lautner’s father, Daniel Lautner, is overly demanding and difficult to work with. There's no way to know if this is true, of course, but a couple years ago, Lautner confessed that his dad had laid down a fairly strict rule about dating:

My dad says I can't date until I'm 28. I'm definitely hoping to negotiate that one down. My parents brought me up to have respect and not take things for granted.

Twenty-eight? Um, wow. I'm guessing if Daddy Lautner is in charge of whether or not his son gets to first base before he's nearly THIRTY, he's probably overly involved in his kid's career, too.

Plus, I can't think why else Slate PR would drop Lautner like a hot potato right now. Slate's Robin Baum once dumped Russell Crowe back in 2006, but that probably had something to do with Crowe being an aggressive asshole who was once booked for assault after throwing a phone at a hotel clerk. I'm just saying, agents don't typically fire their famous clients without a damn good reason.

Hopefully this is a wake-up call for Lautner's dad, because if he really is impacting his son's career, he's risking the Young Hollywood Death Spiral: their father-child relationship goes in the crapper, Taylor repeatedly acts out until he's photographed doing lines of coke off a stripper's butt cheek, the inevitable rehab stint, and finally, the tell-all book that severs their ties once and for all (working title: "I Was Always Team Jacob," by Daniel Lautner).

What's your take on Lautner's PR fallout? Do you think there's any truth to the stage dad rumors?
