Paul Simon Is Still Better Than Most Artists Today (VIDEOS)

paul simonEd Helms (The Hangover 2 and The Office) was the host of Saturday Night Live last night and the legendary Paul Simon was the musical guest performing the title track from his latest album So Beautiful Or So What as well as the song "Rewrite." Simon was amazing. Yes, yes he was. And anyone who is going to take cheap shots and make fun of this musical genius really has no idea of the impact this man had and continues to have on music lovers. Real music lovers.

Simon's career spans decades and the musical landscape wouldn't be the same without his songs. "Bridge Over Troubled Water." "Mrs. Robinson." "Cecilia." "A Hazy Shade of Winter." "The Only Living Boy In New York." "For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her." "Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard." "Slip Slidin' Away." "Graceland." I can go on and on.

Yeah, he's old -- 69-amazing-years-old -- but he's got more talent in those long fingernails than most of the artists today combined.

And let it be known that I am not making fun of his long talons. If you did, you clearly don't understand that many guitarists use their nails as a pick -- it's called finger-picking. It's okay. You know now. Consider yourself schooled. Impress your friends with your new knowledge.

And remember, his wife is the fantastic Edie Brickell -- what a musical power couple. The Shins, Vampire Weekend, and Grizzly Bear have all been very influenced by his work.

Simon's voice is still strong and enchanting and sweet and soft. He's still quirky and one of the ultimate folk storytellers. In case you missed it or what to see it again, here are his performances.
