'Abduction' Trailer Introduces Taylor Lautner, Action Hero (VIDEO)

Taylor LautnerIn one of the most anticipated movie trailers ever, tonight MTV aired a few minutes of Abduction, the new movie starring Taylor Lautner. It was a first glimpse at Lautner's abilities beyond the comfortable Jacob Black role his fans have come to know and love (and LOVE!). So the stakes are high to see if he can bring his fans with him as he moves beyond the Twilight series. Based on this trailer, it seems he won't have much trouble doing so.

In the film he plays Nathan, a teenager who has always sensed something was off in his life. "Sometimes I feel different. I walk around like everybody else, but inside I just feel like I'm a stranger in my own life." Even though pretty much every teenager feels like that on any given day, in Nathan's case, he's right. He discovers his picture on a missing persons' website, and from there we see glimpses of romance, action, and stunts galore, including a really cool scene where he slides down a glass wall.

It's not a story unlike many an action thriller we've seen countless times over (think Bourne Identity), but this one has something none that has gone before it has had -- Lautner. While he's not the most believable action hero, the amazing cast surrounding him, which includes the likes of Danny Glover, Lily Collins, Sigourney Weaver, and Jason Isaacs, plus the fast-paced action, will likely let many overlook that fact. Plus, he's Taylor Lautner.

Overall, I'd say it's much better than expected and a seemingly good career move for the heartthrob. As Lautner said in an interview after the trailer aired about why he chose to do this particular movie:

It's a great story, it's a great character, there are a lot of great characters, there's a lot of action, it's fun. Also, I knew it was going to be challenging, so I was looking forward to that.

Fans are likely looking forward to the film even more after tonight. Unfortunately, we're all going to have to wait, as it's not scheduled to hit theatres until September 23.
