Kirstie Alley vs. George Lopez: Who's the (Sexist) Pig?

kirstie alley dwtsKirstie Alley has to be one of the most self-deprecating entertainers around. She knows she's struggled with her weight; she puts it all out there. She's even done two TV shows about it! And now she goes on season 12 of Dancing With the Stars, with hopes that all the dancing will help get her in shape, only to have some jerk come out of the woodwork and take a cheap jab at her. That jerk was George Lopez.

On Tuesday night, not long after the season premiere aired, Lopez ripped Alley, basically calling her a pig:

She did a nice job, her little hooves tapping away. Before the show she went to the market, then she had roast beef, and this is her going all the way home.

He then cut to a video of the Geico pig, squealing.

Right after the first insult, Kirstie took to her Twitter, calling him a "big, bad drunk woolf," then Lopez responded on his own account:

I misjudged the joke. No malice was intended and I apologize to Kirstie.

That's nice and all, but I don't blame Kirstie for getting in the last jab when she tweeted directly @georgelopez this morning:

I don't need or want ur apology...I want your kidney dude..on behalf of ur X and all the women uv insulted...give it back

HA! Lopez's wife, who filed for divorce last fall, also donated a kidney to him in 2005. Kirstie was so right to hit him back -- right where it was bound to hurt.

It's one thing to dig into her for being nutty (because, let's face it, she is), and hey, there's enough material right there! But, where does he get off ripping on her for being chubby? He's not exactly a slender guy himself. I can't help but remember a scene from Sex & the City, where they're all in Atlantic City and some total creep says to Miranda (who had just had a baby!), "Hey red, move your fat ass!" and Samantha counters, "What's your excuse?" Carrie says, "Yeah, ya havin' triplets??"

Granted, Kirstie didn't just have a baby, and Lopez certainly isn't FAT. But I really feel like this is just another illustration of a vile double-standard! It's okay for men to be heavy-set. But women? Especially those in the spotlight? Who struggle with their weight? (Hello, Roseanne, Oprah, Rosie O'Donnell, Kirstie Alley, even Elizabeth Taylor!) Their size makes them fair game for being constantly ridiculed and made out to be the butt (yeah, yeah, yeah) of the joke. You RARELY see male stars in the same position.

Did anyone even talk about how Jason Alexander was a chubbo for years on Seinfeld before he joined Jenny Craig? How about Tom Arnold or Drew Carey?

So, I don't blame Kirstie for shooting this Twitter dagger at Lopez and refusing his apology. Hopefully, she gets the last word on this, and this showdown only serves to get more people rooting for her on DWTS!

Do you think George Lopez went too far ripping into Kirstie about her weight? What do you think about the double standard that exists between male and female celebs who struggle with their weight?
