Vanessa Hudgens Tells the Truth About Her Rockin' Body

Vanessa Hudgens isn't pulling any punches when she talks about what it takes to look like she does, replete with abs and zero body fat, on the April cover of Shape. Unlike most of Hollywood, Hudgens doesn't pretend that she eats all junk and then magically has that bod. She admits it's work and diet. And good for her for being honest!

She tells Shape:

I used to go to Cold Stone Creamery, get a tub of Butterfinger ice cream, and eat it all before bedtime. And my fingers were permanently stained orange from Cheetos ... I lived on Hot Pockets and never touched vegetables; I needed to do something about my diet.

The actress, who is in the best shape of her life thanks to a strict diet and exercise regimen in preparation for her role in the action movie Sucker Punch (due out March 25), says:

I knew it was going to be hard but I didn't know how hard. In the beginning I could dead lift 135 pounds. By the end, I lifted 180 pounds. I was a monster.

We all look at the tabloids and we wonder why we don't look like the stars. It's even worse in person. Last week, I happened to meet Kelly Ripa through an event I will likely write about later. It was hard not to compare myself and when the photos came back ... ouch.

How is it possible that the body I thought was OK just 24 hours before was suddenly way too large? It's not, of course. There is a skewed perception in Hollywood that skinny is better, but a lot of times, achieving the super skinny looks of Rachel Zoe, Bethenny Frankel, and Kelly Ripa isn't safe.

The problem is that women get competitive and we get into a mindset where we compare and compare and then we never measure up just right. Hearing things about how hard these women work to achieve that look doesn't fix the mindset, but it does help us understand just why we don't fit that mold.

It's hard to have abs of steel. It takes a lot of crunches. And those Cadbury mini eggs that are so delectable? You can't eat those at all. As Hudgens says, it's egg white omelets and truffle oil for you if you want to look like that. They're paid to do so and we aren't.

So you know what? I will enjoy my food and try to stick to a size 4 and be happy. I may never be a size 0, but Cadbury mini eggs are too good to miss.

Do you ever get down on your body because of celebs?
