'Jersey Shore' Recap: Has the Shore Jumped the Shark?

The ninth episode of Season 3 of the Jersey Shore saw a little sex, a little whining (from Ronnie), and a lot of drama between Vinny and Snooki, but generally speaking it was a snooze-fest.

I am beginning to worry that this season is actually the official shark jumping one because honestly, without Sam and Ron, there is very little to get excited over. This is so true that the producers actually dragged Sammi back after a two-week hiatus (I am inferring the dragging -- there was no actual dragging shown on film), and there were at least 20 minutes of the show dedicated to their continued drama even when there are hundreds of miles between them.

But seriously, when did this show get so dull?

Nothing feels new anymore. Snooki had a little sex, Deena got a little drunk. It was funny when Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino sent Deena and Snooki into the city in a cab rather than to the club they'd planned to go to at the Shore, but besides that, it was more of the same.

Vinny and Snooki may or may not like each other. The sexism continued on the show with Snooki being made out to be some kind of whore for daring to have sex with men while the guys are constantly bragging about their conquests. When Vinny said he refused Snooki sex to preserve her honor because she had "smushed" the night before, I got a little nauseous. Really Vinny? You are one to talk!

The whole shtick has become a bit tired. Watching these kids party and make fools of themselves is just less fun. At first, it was hard to believe that people like this actually existed and watching them was like watching strange birds mating at the zoo -- you just couldn't stop. Now, they are all minor celebrities. They hang out at red carpet events and dance on ABC shows. They no longer surprise me and their time seems to be up.

As The Situation has removed himself more from the fun (being THIRTY YEARS OLD and all!), there isn't as much to mock. The last few shows have felt a bit desperate, like random clips of funny bits because a cohesive story line was too much to pull together.

With the return of Sammi, it looks like there will be a return to some drama. I never thought I would be missing Ronnie and Sammi, but I'm glad she's back just to lend some spark.

Is it possible the show has run its course?
