Montel Williams Busted for Drugs ... Huh?

montelMontel Williams, former talk show host and current advocate for the legalization of medical cannabis, was busted for possession of drug paraphernalia after TSA agents found a marijuana pipe in his carry-on as he passed through security at Milwaukee's airport on Tuesday.

There was no drug residue on the pipe. No actual weed was found on him at all. Zippo.

But Williams was still cited $484 for toting the empty pipe.

Are you kidding me?

A bit of background info:

Williams was famously diagnosed with multiple sclerosis over 10 years ago and has been battling the debilitating muscular disease ever since. Smoking weed is often cited as being helpful in treating the chronic pain associated with MS, cancer, and other conditions. Montel has been a very vocal proponent for the legalization of medical marijuana because it has helped improve his quality of life, along with many others.

So while he most likely didn't agree with the charge, Montel graciously paid the fine to the Milwaukee sheriff's office and was sent on his merry way.

Hey, I know the TSA officers were just doing their job ... but isn't this incident a waste of their resources? There are a lot of things that make all of us fearful to fly today ... I can give you a laundry list of things that can go wrong. And I'm not the only one.

But a dude with an empty pot pipe? That sure isn't one of them.

Wouldn't that cash have been better spent at the non-profit Montel Williams MS Foundation, which the ex-talking head set up in 2000 to further the scientific study of MS?

He may be out almost $500, but Williams hasn't lost his sense of humor about the situation. He posted a link to an article about the incident on his Twitter page, along with the statement: "I made it on TMZ -- Can you believe this?"

Nope, I can't.

Do you think the TSA should bust people for carrying empty drug paraphernalia?
