Angelina Jolie & Johnny Depp in 'The Tourist': 5 Juicy Real-Life Rumors

The TouristAfter months of anticipation and speculation, The Tourist, starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, premiered last night in New York.

The movie, which opens nationwide this weekend, is a remake of the French film, Anthony Zimmer, and it promises to be steamy. Of course, just the thought of the two of them standing in a barn, box, or anywhere is pretty steamy in itself.

Whether it will live up to all of the hype remains to be seen.

But as interesting as the film may or may not be -- making the film with two of the hottest names in Hollywood was a process filled with fascinating details, and the gossip mill is in full gear.

Here are a few juicy details:

  1. Angelina took manners classes for her role
"I'm not completely clumsy or gross, but ... (the character) takes her time with everything. I'm an American! I do 10 things before breakfast," she told Matt Lauer this morning on the Today show.

  2. Angelina and Johnny had sex in some VERY public places
"[W]e had about 30,000 [people] standing behind the barricades whenever we tried to do an intimate scene, so it was quite adventurous," the film's director, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, told MTV News.

  3. The two A-list celebs had never met
Somehow in all of their years in Hollywood, the co-stars had never met before they began shooting The Tourist. "We both liked each other's movies, but had never met. And we met and talked about kids for the first hour, and France for the second," Depp told Extra.

  4. Johnny's girlfriend wanted him to quit the film (guess why)
Jealous long-time girlfriend Vanessa Paradis reportedly demanded he quit the film when she learned he'd be filming the steamy scenes with Angelina "The Maneater" Jolie. Guess she didn't get her way.

  5. The rumor police were on high alert
In order to thwart the inevitable rumors about an affair between the two (and perhaps appease Paradis?), Depp carefully avoided Jolie in public.
As he described to Vanity Fair, "Having to hide, sometimes not even being able to talk to each other in public because someone will take a photograph and it will be misconstrued and turned into some other shit.”
