Did Matt Lauer Pull a Fast One on Kanye West?

matt lauer kanye westKanye West is irate at Matt Lauer for badgering him on the Today show. The rapper went ballistic on Twitter yesterday complaining about the unfairness of the interview (which aired today) and swearing off any future media appearances.

West was particularly bothered when producers ran a clip of him grabbing the microphone while he was talking about the infamous Taylor Swift-VMA incident. He stopped mid-sentence saying:

Yo, how am I supposed to talk if you gonna run this thing in the middle, while I'm talking? ... Please don't let that happen again, it's like ridiculous.

But Lauer is standing by the interview.

He explained in the closing segment how producers typically run clips while any guest is speaking.

There was nothing improper about it, nothing unusual about it whatsoever.

West also was upset that Lauer manipulated him into showing remorse for his controversial "George Bush doesn't like black people" comment. When Lauer asked West to look at George Bush's face in a clip before responding (which admittedly was really lame), he retorted, "I didn't need you guys to show me the tape in order to like prompt my emotion to what I'm going to say."

I'm going to go out on a limb and just ask the question I think is on everyone's mind: Why did Kanye agree to go on the Today show in the first place? Doesn't he watch the show? Those hosts badger all their guests. It's practically a badger-fest.

I don't necessarily think he owed George Bush an apology, but given the context of Lauer's interview with the former President, I find it hard to believe that Kanye didn't see all that coming.

Do you think Matt Lauer manipulated Kanye into showing remorse for George Bush?
