Lady Gaga + Meat Dress = Gay Rights?

meatLady Gaga claims that the meat dress she wore at the VMAs is a gay rights symbol.

Mother Monster first discussed her theory with Ellen DeGeneres:

"It is a devastation to me that I know my fans who are gay ... feel like they have governmental oppression on them. That's actually why I wore the meat tonight."

Hmmm. I'm confused. Does the beef represent the cows that are herded in barns or the farmers or the ... are we talking Brokeback Mountain here?

Surely I couldn't be the only one scratching my head. Clearly, clarification was needed.

So the pop singer reiterated the meat metaphor yesterday at a rally to repeal the controversial "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law in Portland, Maine:

"Equality is the prime rib of America, but because I am gay, I don't get to enjoy the greatest cut of meat my country has to offer. Shouldn't everyone deserve to wear the same meat dress I do?"

Say what? Now I'm a die-hard fan of rambling, incoherent music artists everywhere. Truly, I am. Sometimes I even try to make sense of it all. So what in the name of Courtney Love does meat have to do with homosexuality?

The answer is nothing. And Gaga knows that, too. She's an expert at promotion and knows that the first thing you need to do if you want to make a point is to get the full attention of the public.

And that she did ... for a cause she believes in. Bravo, Lady Gaga!

Do you think Lady Gaga knows exactly what she's doing? Or is she a few chops short of a rack of lamb?
