Kim Kardashian Shares Breastfeeding Tips

We were all waiting with bated breath for Kim Kardashian, who is neither married nor pregnant, to reveal her breastfeeding plan. Luckily, we may all rest easy now.

The curviest and hottest of the Kardashian sisters will breastfeed ... but only for six months. Oy. It's like Gisele Bundchen all over again.

Kardashian got herself into hot water in June when she twittered this out to her many followers:

"EWW I'm at lunch, the woman at the table next 2 me is breast feeding her baby w no coverup."

Like, OMG!

In the ensuing weeks, Kardashian seems to have been educated about the benefits of breastfeeding since she is planning to breastfeed ... but only for six months.

"They say that after a year, there's no nutrients," she tells Allure in their September issue.

Whew! I guess I won't consult my pesky midwife or pediatrician on this since, it turns out, Kim has it all under control.

But just in case? I did. And shockingly, since starlets usually give such sound medical advice, it turns out, in this case, she was wrong.

According to (a great source for accurate breastfeeding information):

  • Breast milk continues to provide substantial amounts of key nutrients well beyond the first year of life, especially protein, fat, and most vitamins. -- Dewey 2001
  • Studies done in rural Bangladesh have shown that breast milk continues to be an important source of vitamin A in the second and third year of life. -- Persson 1998
  • Nursing toddlers between the ages of 16 and 30 months have been found to have fewer illnesses and illnesses of shorter duration than their non-nursing peers. -- Gulick 1986
  • Extensive research on the relationship between cognitive achievement (IQ scores, grades in school) and breastfeeding has shown the greatest gains for those children breastfed the longest.

I am not trying to shove an agenda down anyone's throat, but I do think it's crucial that we deal in facts as opposed to taking information from someone whose ass you can fan on Facebook.

How long did you breastfeed?
