Ann Kirsten Kennis: Surprise You Are 'Vampire Weekend' Covergirl!

Anna Kirsten KennisCan you imagine being a 40-something mother when your teenage daughter shows you the CD cover of a hot indie band that has YOUR face on it? That's what Ann Kirsten Kennis says happened to her.

The former model said she had no idea that her picture graced Vampire Weekend's album Contra until her daughter showed it to her. She is suing the band for $2 million.

Where the photograph came from and how it made its way to the band get a bit murky. Kennis doesn't remember having it taken, but says it was not taken by Tod Brody, who claims to have done so.

In fact, the Connecticut mom says she has never even met Brody and alleges that he forged her name on a release form provided to the band.

“Ms. Kennis’ claim that I didn’t take the photo is blatantly false,” Brody told Entertainment Weekly. “I took the photo in 1983. The photo was in my possession the entire time, for 26 years, until it was delivered to Vampire Weekend.”

An interesting he-said, she-said for sure. My first instinct is to side with the unsuspecting mother, but the picture was taken 26 years ago. Perhaps she just blindly and unknowingly signed away her rights without a thought ... until she saw that album and thought about the money she could get?

In any case, it does seem unfair if her picture is used to sell albums and she wasn't compensated at all ... beyond earning mega-cool points with her daughter's friends.

This will be interesting to watch this one play out.

Would you sue if you found your picture on the cover of a CD like Ann Kirsten Kennis? Do you think the photographer is telling the truth?
