UFC 116: Lesnar vs Carwin, They're Going to Beat the Crap Out of Each Other

ultimate fight clubThe UFC 116 will take place tonight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, at 10pm ET / 7pm PT. Assuming you can't make it to Nevada, and actually care about this fight, you can watch it live via Pay-Per-View.

Tonight's Ultimate Fight is being billed as the biggest fight in UFC history. Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin, two ridiculously ripped (and kind of scary looking) guys are vying for the heavyweight title.

Ultimate Fighting has become extremely popular over the past five years, and after a brief conversation with my (much) younger brother, I can kind-of see why.

He talks about it with so much passion. About the techniques these guys use, the mixed martial arts they employ, and the intensity with which they battle. I was always under the impression that UFC fights were an "anything goes" type of sport, but there are actually lots of rules and limitations... there is also, generally, a lot of blood

I grew up watching boxing matches with my dad, where the gloves seemed to make up for the fact they were knocking each other around. And really, what could possibly be more fun than watching two grown men beat the crap out of each other?

Ultimate Fighting matches just seem so much more brutal. So, I decided to check out the rules and found an interesting list of the moves that are not allowed in the ring.

Here are 10 (there are 31 total) moves that would earn a fighter a foul.

  1. Eye gouging of any kind.
  2. Hair pulling.
  3. Putting a finger into any orifice or into any cut or laceration on an opponent.
  4. Throat strikes of any kind, including, without limitation, grabbing the trachea.
  5. Using abusive language in the ring or fenced area.
  6. Engaging in an unsportsmanlike conduct that causes an injury to an opponent.
  7. Attacking an opponent on or during the break.
  8. Clawing, pinching or twisting the flesh.
  9. Kicking and kneading the head of a grounded opponent.
  10. Kicking to the kidney with the heel.

OMG... really? The fact that these things need to be listed within the rules means that fighters would consider doing them to each other.

Are you a fan of Ultimate Fighting? And if so, what do you like about it?
