How to Get Farmville Updates and Other Unwanted Notices Out of Your Newsfeed

Facebook used to be about reconnecting with old friends (and flames).

Who knew your old high school boyfriend was so obsessed with chickens. And barn raisings. And now he wants you to help feed his stupid fish?

Was he always this needy or is this just a case of Facebook app overload?

Getting rid of the Farmville, YoVille, Mafia Wars, Social City, Fishville ... need we go on? ... updates on your feed is easy. And it will lower your blood pressure.

Here's how it works. Pull up your Facebook and move your mouse to one of those giant, obnoxious updates trashing up the center of your stalking keeping up with the details of your friends' lives.

Run the cursor arrow over the upper right-hand corner of the update. The word "hide" will appear.

Click on it, and it will give you the option to hide that friend or simply to hide the offending application.

This will hide all updates from that game, so you won't have to do it again for each friend playing that particular mindless form of entertainment. You will have to do it for each game -- and they seem to pop up new ones every day.

You can also do this to get rid of the "so and so answered a question about you" and the "flowers for mom" and other similar apps.

Your friends won't know you hid these, so don't worry about offending anyone. Of course, if you really want to make your point, you can always join one of these groups to let them know how you really feel:

Ahhh, that feels better, doesn't it?
