Renewing one's marriage vows
seems to be the hot thing in Hollywood lately. The most recent couple to jump on the bandwagon: Supermodel Heidi Klum and Seal.

At a ceremony in Costa Careyes, Mexico, with friends and family surrounding them, the couple pledged their devotion to each other ... again. It's a tradition they keep each year, though this year's event was a little classier than the "white trash" ceremony held last year.

"It's our time -- a lovely family time," Klum recently told Redbook. "It's about remembering this moment of love we gave to each other and reinforcing it."

Also saying their "I dos" again this weekend -- Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott.

Despite rumors of marital discord (or perhaps to spite rumors?), the couple renewed their vows in a private ceremony in Beverly Hills in front of their children and close friends and family.

And just last week, Mariah Carey and Nick Canon held an entire lavish wedding to renew their vows for the third time in their two-year marriage. (They had two weddings the first time.)

For each wedding, Mariah gets a new ring. "You've gotta be really creative. You've gotta get another ring," Cannon told

But, of course.

Josh Duhamel and Fergie started the year off by renewing their vows in January, just a year after they got married.

While it's a lovely trend, I can't help but think that most of it is for show, or an excuse for a great party at best. If you've been married 25 or 50 years, that's one thing, but none of these couples has even been married more than five years. How many ceremonies are they going to have in their lifetime?

If you make a lifelong vow and work to uphold it, do you really need to make it again ... and again? Is it really going to help make a marriage stronger?

It certainly didn't work for Jon and Kate Gosselin, who renewed their vows in Hawaii right before it all came crumbling down.

Have you renewed your wedding vows? Is it something you'd like to do?
