Danette Giltz said she had no idea that she was pregnant, let alone carrying triplets, when she went to the hospital with severe pain. The new mom from South Dakota told Fox News that she originally believed the sudden discomfort to be kidney stones because she's had the problem before. Little did she expect that her doctor would tell her that she was actually in labor and that her family was about to grow by three.

  • On August 10, Giltz headed to urgent care, hoping they could help her with kidney stones that were acting up.

CBS 17 reported that the mom merely thought she had kidney stones and was hoping to get a surgery to break them up. "I started getting pains in my back and in my side felt like kidney stones cuz I've had them once before," she wrote on Facebook. "So I just kept pushing on, [until] Saturday I was in so much pain all I could do was lay in bed and cry it hurt to move and even breath," she added.

"So went to urgent care thinking I'm going to have to have surgery to break the stones up," she wrote.

  • But then her doctor clued her in to some shocking news: She was actually 34 weeks pregnant ...

In fact, not only was Giltz pregnant, but her discomfort was due to her being in labor. And surprise! She was having twins.

“Well, the doctor comes back in after doing a urine sample and said you’re pregnant. ... so they got the portable heart monitor they use and did an ultrasound and said there’s possible twins,” she wrote in her Facebook post.

"They noticed the pains I was feeling was actually contractions," she continued. Her doctor checked the mom and it turned out she was 4 cm dilated, which was when she was rushed to Rapid City Hospital where it was confirmed that Giltz was about to give birth.

"They did [an] ultrasound and seen one baby feet first so I would need a C-section," she added. "Dr. came in checked me, I was 6cm dilated, so they moved very quickly got me into surgery."

"Well [the] Dr. goes, 'baby a is a boy ...baby b is a girl,'" she continued. "Then Dr. yells I need another blanket there's a third."

The mom added that her husband was the most surprised by her pregnancy. He was just starting to think of baby names for his twins when he learned he would be adding three kids instead of two to his brood.

"His reaction is like, ‘Excuse me, put it back, no, I was told I have twins, I'm not doing triplets,'" Giltz told Fox News. "She's like, ‘No, there's three babies in here. There are triplets.'"

  • In the end, the couple ended up with three new bundles of joy: Gypsy, Nikki, and Blaze.

The mom already has two older children, but now is the proud parent mama of two newborn baby girls and one baby boy.

The babies were born within four minutes of each other and each weighed about 4 pounds. But she had no idea before heading to urgent care that she was expecting. "That's the story I never felt movement, I never got morning sickness, nothing!” she wrote online.

The couple even started a Facebook fundraising page to help raise money for her three new babies.

"You don't ever see triplets being conceived naturally, let alone going 34 weeks without knowing," Giltz told Fox News. “I go to the doctor's thinking I'll have surgery for kidney stones and end up going into labor with a C-section that night. It's crazy.”
