It seems as if every day there's a new story about Britney Spears and her health, and the latest news about the pop legend is even more concerning. Reports are surfacing Britney is unable to care for herself, and it sounds like she's in a pretty rough place right now.

A source tells Entertainment Tonight that Britney's had a hard week, and that "getting through each day is a challenge."

"Performing again right now or anytime soon is not an option," the insider explains to ET about Britney's current state. "She is in no state to be able to take care of herself let alone to do live shows. She needs to get the right combination of medication and therapy for more than just a 30-day stay in a facility for her to be able to function properly."

That breaks our hearts for her -- especially after hearing that Kevin Federline reportedly won't let Britney see her kids more often until she's stable. We can't imagine what she must be going through right now.

The source also adds that he or she hopes Britney's kids will be another source of motivation for her to get healthy.

Sean Preston, 13, and Jayden, 12, are spending most of their time with their dad, and it seems the people around Britney think that's best -- for now, at least.

"Britney’s boys are well taken care of and live for the most part with Kevin," said the insider. "They visit and stay with their mom whenever possible. She would love to have them full time but right now those closest to her feel she needs to leave the custody situation as is until she is back on track."

The source also adds getting back on track likely includes getting on the right medication, because Britney reportedly cannot function without it.

Earlier this week, Britney's manager said she may never perform again, and the people close to her hope this will be a wake-up call for her.

Although Larry Rudolph clarified his comments -- saying that he's unsure if Britney will return to her Vegas residency again, not about performing in general -- it was still jarring for fans to read his words, and it sounds as if her team is hoping it had the same effect on Britney so she'll take getting better seriously.

"He didn't say it to hurt her but she does need to realize how serious her situation is at this time," the source said. "She has a very good support system but she is adamant about doing things her own way."

It's impossible to know what the future will hold for Britney -- where her music is involved or otherwise. But for now, the fan reaction is all about letting her have the time she needs to get well.

Since Britney's been home from treatment, she's been sharing videos of herself dancing and working out.

It's hard to say what's actually going on behind the scenes, but the latest updates have been pretty worrisome. Whatever's happening, we hope Britney's okay. She deserves a happy and healthy life, and hopefully, the people around her are helping her get there.
