People everywhere were saddened this morning upon waking up to the news that the 41st president of the United States, George H.W. Bush, passed away on November 30 at the age of 94. His health had been failing in recent months, as was evident especially prior to granddaughter Barbara Bush's wedding to Craig Coyne in October.

  • Barbara wed Craig just five weeks after getting engaged.

In an interview with People magazine, she explained that she opted to tie the knot quickly at a small ceremony at her family's compound in Kennebunkport, Maine, to make sure that her grandfather could attend, since they had just lost her grandmother, Barbara Bush. She told the outlet:

He’s great -- totally with it. He is, of course, 94 years old and misses my grandmother ... We just thought, let’s try to do [the wedding] soon -- a small wedding with just our family and my grandfather, here.

  • Barbara's twin, Jenna Bush Hager, shared this sweet photo this morning, along with a heartwarming caption.

    It reads:

Waking up missing this giant of a man who gave me everything. He taught me and my family about service, family, decency, the power of gentle words, and a beautiful heart. I will miss him desperately, but so happy he and my Grandmother are back together.

  • Jenna also posted this sweet throwback photo, from her childhood days when her grandfather was president.

  • Former President George W. Bush issued a powerful statement about his father's passing.

    He wrote:

George H. W. Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for. The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41’s life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens.

  • Plenty of noteworthy tributes are pouring in on Twitter today ...

  • Chelsea's dad also shared his own message.

  • As did former President Barack Obama ...

  • Many others are voicing their condolences as well.

  • Twitter users are also sharing this letter, which George H.W. Bush wrote to former President Bill Clinton before Clinton took office.

Class. Dignity. Respect. Something we could all use a lot more of these days when it comes to being kind to each other, regardless of differences of opinion. A powerful reminder, indeed.

  • All of us at CafeMom send our deepest sympathy to this wonderful family.

    Rest in peace, Mr. President.
