Woman Speaks Out After Wrongly Accusing a 9-Year-Old of Sexual Assault

A woman dubbed "Cornerstore Caroline" is apologizing after she wrongly accused a 9-year-old boy of groping her in a Brooklyn bodega. Teresa Klein had been at the counter of the corner store when a young boy walked past her and accidentally grazed her with a bag he was carrying. In video footage taken by a bystander, Klein can be seen confronting the boy and his sister, accusing the elementary-schooler of purposefully grazing her backside and then phoned police to report the incident. The two children were terrorized by the incident, and now Klein is apologizing in the press. "Young man, I don't know your name, but I'm sorry." she said.

  • The incident happened last week, and in the footage captured by a bystander, we can see the boy enter the store with his mom and sister.

According to The New York Post, Klein was paying for two bags of cat litter at the Sahara Deli Market in Flatbush, Brooklyn, on Wednesday, when the young boy, his sister, and his mom walked into the market.

The boy was wearing a large backpack and was carrying a plastic bag from Cookie's department store and as the video clearly shows, it was bag, not his hand, that accidentally grazed the woman's bottom.

Local reporter Andrew Ramos reported on Twitter that the deli worker he spoke with after the incident told him that Klein has a history of being "unwell."  And in the footage taken by bystander Jason Littlejohn, Klein can clearly be seen confronting the boy, his sister, and his mother, even at one point thrusting her hips at the boy during the confrontation.

  • In a second video that followed the incident, Klein can be seen calling the police. "I was just sexually assaulted by a child," she told them.

In a video taken outside the store, the little boy and his sister can be seen frantically crying and panicking. Klein can be seen speaking to the police telling them that, "No, I want the cops here right now."

"White lady calls the cops on a black lady, I get it," she added. "The son grabbed my a** and she decided to yell at me."

Other customers of the bodega attempted to plead with the woman, telling her to "go home" and that she was wrongfully condemning the boy.

"Don't cry, little man," Littlejohn told the boy.

  • The video has sparked outrage online, as many see this as another example of white women calling the cops on African Americans for minor incidents.

  • Some are even comparing the incident to the death of Emmitt Till, the 14-year-old black boy who was murdered for whistling at a White woman in 1955.

  • On Friday, Klein returned to the bodega to watch the footage and later admitted that she had made a mistake.

Klein returned to the store in front of a crowd of local onlookers and media. "The child accidentally brushed against me," WBAL 11 reported she admitted.

Klein attempted to explain her actions, saying that she was upset with how the boy's mother addressed her. "I understand how it looks, but she escalated it and then I lost my temper at her, not at that child," she said.

"Young man, I don't know your name, but I'm sorry," she continued.

"That was the most gut-wrenching thing that I've seen in my life with a little boy crying like that, and obviously knew he didn't do anything," Littejohn told ABC 7.

On October 13, a GoFundMe account was created for the boy to raise money for his future education.

"The trauma that this woman put him through is horrific. I am hoping that we can bring some joy to his life," wrote the creator of the account, Michael Skolnik.

For now, the parents of the boy have requested that his identity remain anonymous.
