Here's Everything You Need to Know About the Country Fresh Veggie Recall

Packaged vegetables
There's no easier way to get in your daily amount of vegetables than by adding some already-made sides to your lunch or dinner. But before you get ready to munch on those prepackaged, fresh-cut veggies, you'll want to read this first. Country Fresh, Inc., just recalled 30,000 of its precut packaged vegetables due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

A variety of these products can be purchased at several stores such as Walmart, Publix, Winn Dixie, Harris Teeter Supermarkets, and BI-LO.

Shoppers in the Southeast should be on the lookout because the products were distributed across several southern states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

According to the US Food and Drug Administration, customers should be wary of Country Fresh items that have the "best if used by" dates that range between August 7, 2016 to August 19, 2016, as they may be affected. These items in question are also packaged in either clear containers or Styrofoam trays wrapped in plastic. A list of the recalled items and the store in which they are sold can be found here

Fortunately, there have been no reported illnesses in relation to the recalled vegetables.

The director of food safety for the Conroe, Texas–based company, Max Payen, explained in a news release: "We are treating this incident very seriously because we want to ensure that our customers are provided with only the safest, most wholesome, and high-quality products available."

The Georgia Department of Agriculture originally identified the contamination in a routine sample that tested positive for the bacteria.

Listeria causes short-term symptons for healthy people, but can cause serious infections in children, elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Infection can even cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

If you have purchased any of the possibly contaminated items, please return the items to the store for a full refund. Customers can also reach out to Country Fresh about any questions via phone at 281-453-3305, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. CT.
