2-Year-Old Still Missing After Alligator Pulls Him into a Lagoon at Disney Resort

A 2-year-old boy was snatched by an alligator and dragged into a lake at a Disney World resort Tuesday evening. His father reportedly tried to wrestle the toddler away from the alligator but was unable to in what has to be any parent's worst nightmare.

A search of the Seven Seas Lagoon is under way for the little boy who was wading by the edge of the water while vacationing from Nebraska with his parents and two siblings.

A mother, like many others vacationing at the Grand Floridian resort with her family, shared this photo and video of the unimaginable scene, along with her thoughts and prayers for this small child's safe return.

No one imagines that their trip to what is thought of as the "happiest place on Earth" will take this devastating turn.

We can't even begin to imagine the terror and helplessness that this father must have felt as he desperately tried to rescue his son.

While there are signs indicating that guests aren't permitted to swim in the lagoon, there are no warnings about alligators. Surely, that will change.

In a statement, a Disney spokeswoman wrote:

Everyone here at the Walt Disney World resort is devastated by this tragic accident. Our thoughts are with the family. We are helping the family and doing everything we can to assist law enforcement.

What should have been a wonderful vacation filled with laughter and fun has become an unfathomable nightmare no parent or child should ever experience.

Our thoughts are with this family.

 

Update: As of 4 pm on June 15, a source told CNN that the boy has unfortunately been found dead.
