Ominous Snapchat Messages Point to Whereabouts of Missing Girl

missing girl

Since April 29, 15-year-old Brianna Herrmann has been missing, her San Diego family frantic to find her. Meanwhile police have been piecing together potential leads -- which include some ominous Snapchat messages.

The Snapchat messages, sent by Brianna to a friend soon after her disappearance, suggest she was being held against her will in a Los Angeles home. Police raided the building and found a room with a mattress matching Brianna's description. But no Brianna.

The prime suspect believed to be holding her captive? Timothy "Dean" Rivera, whom Brianna had met on a beach a month before her disappearance. According to the BringBriannaHome gofundme page set up to raise funds for the search, Rivera "preys on younger vulnerable girls."

Meanwhile, according to the Help Find Brianna Hermann Facebook page, information points to Brianna being "seen possibly being forced to prostitute herself in the El Sereno area of Los Angeles."

Talk about horrifying! It must be so frustrating to teh family that there are these signs she's out there and alive -- via Snapchat, Facebook and otherwise -- but still not found.

And if there's any bright side to this case, it's how technology is helping with the investigation and with spreading the word. For instance, the gofundme page has raised over $9,000 so far. Her Facebook page is filled with sightings and support for the poor family.

While I'm sure nothing will assuage this family's panic until their daughter is found, I'm glad to see how tech and social media is helping their case -- because this family needs all the help they can get.

How has social media helped you?
