Bristol Palin Cancels Her Wedding Via Her Mom Sarah's Facebook Page

With less than a week left until the big day, Bristol Palin has cancelled her May 23 wedding with Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer. And to announce the news, her mom, former Alaska governor and former GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin posted it to her Facebook page.

Which seems a bit odd, doesn't it? I mean, I knew they were engaged, but I didn't know the date ... couldn't they have parted ways and just eventually issued a statement that they had broken up?

Anyway, Sarah posted to Facebook on Monday, "Bristol and Dakota couldn't be more thankful for the love and support of family and friends over the past months while preparing for their wedding. They have informed loved ones that unfortunately the announced celebration planned for May 23 will not be held."

That doesn't mean there won't still be a party though. She continued, "Many friends and family still look forward to getting together that day in Kentucky anyway -- and the Palins and Meyers are happily looking forward to still being at 'the old Kentucky home' on May 23 to celebrate life, in general!"

Is that because they're just postponing the wedding, or because they feel guilty that people had made non-refundable travel arrangements, so they might as well have the party? It may just be postponed, because along with the cancellation notice, Bristol's mom posted this:

Is it a timing issue? We must know! And why oh why is Sarah posting about on her own page? Isn't Bristol old enough by now to handle her own affairs?

The wedding cancellation comes in the wake of another scandal involving the young couple. Recently, reports came to light that Meyer was actually married already, and had never divorced his first wife. Bristol made a statement, and Sarah copied it to her post.

She said, "Regarding salacious headlines in recent days about 'secret wives,' Dakota and I discussed our past relationships prior to our engagement. Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers. As usual, false stories and dramatically written headlines begging controversy should be disregarded, and we have faith that our privacy will be respected at this time by those with decency. Thank you!"

If Bristol wants her privacy to be respected, she might want to talk to her mom about posting her business to her 4.4 million fans on Facebook. Just an idea.

Are you surprised that Bristol and Dakota's wedding was called off?
