Parents Charged for Thinking It Was Okay to Tow a Baby Behind a Moped

Is common sense really that difficult to come by? You know, little things, like not towing your infant behind you while you ride your moped. A South Carolina couple was arrested on Sunday in Myrtle Beach for towing their baby behind their moped in a trailer designed for a bicycle.

Head. Desk.

Mark Cherry, 21, and Bianca Allen, 18, told a South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper that they had no idea that it was a bad idea to strap their 7-month-old baby into the trailer behind their moped and drive to Taco Bell during a tropical storm warning.

It gets even more dumbfounding though ... according to the police report, "the 1-inch strap connecting the trailer to the vehicle was torn three-quarters of the way through and could have snapped." And the trailer didn't have rear reflectors, and one of the tires was flat. Did I mention it was raining? Tropical Storm Ana watch and all that.

Say it with me -- what were they thinking?

The parents were charged with unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person by legal custodian, and the baby was handed over to Allen's mom, where Allen (and presumably the baby) also live. Allen is now allowed only supervised visitation with her child as the police continue their investigation.

Oyza, I know she's only 18, but this is ridiculous. Even if it were a bike instead of a motor vehicle, it still would've been a bad idea, considering the weather and broken-down condition of the carriage.

Do you think this mom really didn't know this was a bad idea?
