NFL Star Ray Rice Wins Appeal After Video Shows Him Knocking His Wife Unconscious

Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice -- who was terminated from the team in September -- has won his court appeal after a video emerged of him punching his wife Janay Palmer in a casino elevator and knocking her unconscious. He is now eligible to be signed by any NFL team that will have him -- and Janay has come forward to tell her side of what she believes happened that day and how she plans to address it in her marriage.

For anyone who missed seeing the horrific video, it shows -- as plain as day -- that Rice punched his then-fiancee Janay twice, causing her to fall down and hit her head on the railing. He then drags her body from the elevator and the two are eventually arrested -- though charges were later dropped against Janay.

In the aftermath of the incident, the NFL was criticized for not releasing Rice immediately after they found out about this insane example of domestic violence. Instead, they more or less gave him a light slap on the wrist with a two-game suspension.

The Ravens finally came to their senses and released him and now, thanks to the court's recent ruling, Rice is a free agent who can be signed with the NFL yet again. It'll be interesting to see if any team wants to be associated with him -- though we should remember (Michael Vick, anyone?) that the organization is notoriously forgiving when it comes to its players' sins.

And there's at least one other person who is extremely forgiving: Janay, who is sticking by her partner's side throughout the mess. The two, who share a toddler daughter, held hands as they made their way into court and, after the decision was reached, Rice thanked his wife for supporting him, took full responsibility, and vowed to become a better husband and father.

Janay has broken her silence and recently gave an interview in which she said she slapped Rice in the elevator after he spat on her and that she couldn't remember what happened next. She says she and her husband watched the video together and that he told her he was in a state of "shock" when he dragged her body out of the elevator.

Janay also says the incident didn't make her rethink their relationship, it only made her demand explanations from her husband. There was never a doubt in her mind that she was going to marry the football player. She says she and Rice are in counseling and are determined to make their relationship stronger.

God, I'm so conflicted about this because it disgusts me to see a woman treated this way. I want to shake Janay and tell her she deserves better. But there's also this teeny part of me that admires her for not giving up on Rice and throwing him away -- for trying to work out their issues and emerge as a strong couple who, let's remember, share a young child.

I guess it all comes down to whether you believe people can change. Can Rice turn a corner? Does he deserve another shot with the NFL? Or are there other, equally talented players whose characters aren't questionable and who deserve the opportunity -- that Rice proved he doesn't value -- to be signed to the NFL?

Do you think Rice deserves another chance? How do you feel about the fact that Janay is defending her husband?
