Body of Missing Fox Executive Found After 2 Years & Police Suspect a Brutal Murder

Gavin SmithIn May 2012, Fox executive Gavin Smith went missing under suspicious circumstances, but now the missing person case can be closed. His remains were found by some unsuspecting hikers in a rural part of Palmdale, California. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office positively identified the body as Smith.

He was reported missing on May 1, 2012, by his wife when he failed to pick up one of their kids from school. It was discovered soon after that the 57-year-old had been having an affair with a convicted drug dealer's wife.

An autopsy has not been performed yet, but authorities suspect that he died of some sort of blunt force trauma. One anonymous official said they believe it may be the work of an experienced hit man.

Police have been investigating the case as murder since May 2013, when his missing car turned up in a storage unit linked with John Creech, the dealer married to Chandrika Creech, whom Smith had reportedly been sleeping with.

There was evidence in the car that led law enforcement to believe he'd been murdered there, but murders are notoriously hard to prosecute without a body.

Although Creech has been named as a person of interest in the case, he is not considered a suspect at this time. He is currently incarcerated at Men's Central Jail on an unrelated narcotics conviction.

After the affair was made public, Gavin's son Evan Smith said he believed something was seriously wrong. "I don't want to think of foul play, but it has entered my mind," he said. "We were always in touch, he texted me all the time. It's not like him to go off the grid. That shows how serious this is."

This is some seriously scary stuff, but now that they have a body, hopefully his alleged murder can be solved and his killer can be appropriately punished.

What do you think happened to Gavin Smith?
