10 Children Are Left Without Mothers After Horrific Car Crash in Maryland

Five people were killed in what Maryland cops have described as one of the worst car crashes they've seen in 40 years -- a tragedy that has left 10 children without their mothers.

The accident took place on a very rainy night after a Mercedes crashed into the back of an Acura while the vehicle was sitting at a red light. Four of the passengers in the Acura -- including one baby and a teen -- were killed, along with a 21-year-old passenger riding in the Mercedes.

The two mothers killed in the Acura were sisters Tameika Curtis, 32, and Typhani Wilkerson, 35, who were passengers in the vehicle. Haddah Ba, 13, and 1-year-old Hassan Boykin were also killed. Their mom, who was driving the car at the time, survived the crash. Curtis reportedly leaves behind eight children, whose ages range from infancy to 15. Wilkerson was reportedly the mom of two small children.

Mercedes passenger Dominique Green was also killed.

The driver of the Mercedes, whose name has not been released, is reportedly in critical condition at the hospital. A witness says he spotted him and another passenger trying to escape from the fiery wreck and that the driver had to pull himself up by his elbows.

Another passenger from the Mercedes is reportedly being treated in the hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

Police say speed and weather conditions may be to blame for the crash, but they are still investigating the incident.

Curtis and Wilkerson's brother set up a GoFundMe page to raise $20,000 for the 10 children who have now been left without mothers.
