US Teen Arrested for Trying to Join ISIS Left 3-Page Explanation for Parents

A young man was arrested on Saturday after being questioned by FBI agents at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. It seems as though the 19-year-old was attempting to travel overseas to join the Islamic State. You know, that terrorist group also known as ISIS or ISIL that keeps beheading westerners.

Mohammed Hamzah Khan reportedly left a three-page note to his parents explaining his decision. Basically he's not into "immoral" societies full of "filth," which is funny because that's exactly why we don't like the Islamic State. Nothing "moral" about killing gays or women who complain that their husbands cheat on them!

According to the FBI, the wannabe terrorist wrote to his mom and dad, "My dear parents, there are a number of reasons I will be going to the blessed land of Shaam (another name for Syria) and leaving my home."

He said that now that the Islamic State has "been established" (i.e. they've violently taken over the region), he felt an obligation to migrate there. Because western society is so icky with all of its icky tolerance.

"We are all witness that the western societies are getting more immoral day by day. I do not want my kids being exposed to filth like this," he explained in the letter, which was signed, "Your loving son, Hamza (Khan’s middle name.)"

Bye Mom and Dad! Kisses from Syria, where I will be learning the fine art of beheading journalists!

It's almost unbelievable. I mean, it's normal for kids that age to strike out on their own, rebel against their upbringing, etc. Hello, college keg parties. But to attempt to join a terrorist group intent on wiping America and other western countries off the map? How is this even possible?

Khan faced his charge of "trying to provide material support to a foreign terrorist group" in federal court on Monday. The judge ordered that he be held until a detention hearing on Thursday. He faces 15 years in jail and a $250,000 fine if convicted.

He had purchased a round trip ticket to Istanbul, with plans to return to Chicago this Thursday. Thanks to the US Customs and Border Protection officers who initially approached him going through airport security over the weekend, along with the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force, it looks like he has other plans.

Federal agents obtained a search warrant for Khan's home while he was in custody, which is where they found the three-page letter detailing his decision to join the Islamic State. They also found "several other handwritten documents -- by Khan and others -- voicing support for the Al-Qaeda splinter group that's been terrorizing Syria and Iraq."

Authorities say one of the documents found was a "notebook filled with pro-ISIS bile," including drawings of armed terrorists and an ISIS flag, with the caption, "Come to Jihad" written in Arabic on it.

It's absolutely disturbing this is happening in America.

Would you be horrified to discover your child was attempting to join a terrorist group?
