Rep. Mark Sanford Ends Engagement in Unbearably Whiny Facebook Rant

Mark SanfordGOP Rep. Mark Sanford of South Carolina has broken off his engagement to his mistress-turned-fianceé, Maria Belen Chapur, and announced it on Facebook an epic rant.

Five years ago, Sanford admitted in a tearful press conference that he'd been cheating on the mother of his four kids with his Argentinian "soul mate," and now Sanford just keeps the drama coming. Seriously, this guy brings more drama than a soap opera about Taylor Swift-obsessed high school cheerleaders.

In a rambling woe-is-me monologue on Facebook, Sanford announced his split, blamed it on his ex-wife, Jenny, and denies he takes drugs or drinks to excess. Sanford buries his lede (in other words, he doesn't get to the point for a very long time) but it appears that his ex-wife is suing him again.

In the past, Jenny Sanford has sued him for trespassing on her property. She's also filed court papers asking Sanford to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Perhaps not a bad idea given this Facebook ramble. Now she appears to want to limit his visitation schedule with their youngest son, but then he goes on to say there is no visitation schedule. Erm, huh?

In the summons Sanford says his wife's lawyers sent him, he is told he can't consume illegal drugs or excessive alcohol in front of his children; that he can't enter Jenny's property; and, most importantly, that he can't have a member of the opposite sex spending the evening in front of his minor children.

Because of all of this "tension," Mark says he and "Belen" -- as he calls her -- have decided to call off their engagement. He writes:

No relationship can stand forever this tension of being forced to pick between the one you love and your own son or daughter, and for this reason Belen and I have decided to call off the engagement. Maybe there will be another chapter when waters calm with Jenny, but at this point the environment is not conducive to building anything given no one would want to be caught in the middle of what’s now happening.

Sigh. Oh, Mark. You got yourself into this, dude. Maybe you aren't crazy, don't take drugs, don't drink, and Belen never spends the night. But, dude, you LIED about seeing her! So many times. You lied to your wife, your kids, and your constituents. Guess what happens to liars? Their credibility gets shot.

Sure, you got re-elected and if the people of South Carolina don't mind their reps lying to them, then that's on them.

But your wife clearly doesn't trust a damn thing you say. So deal with it and get on with your life. It seems to be a sentiment most people on his Facebook page agreed with, summed up by this commenter:

Just shut up and go away. Go feel sorry for yourself somewhere else. My God, I've seen less whining from 7th graders.

Mark sounds suspiciously like a guy who couldn't commit to his wife -- and now won't commit to his mistress. Maybe he can at least commit to silence -- but I doubt it.

Do you think Mark needed to share this with everyone?
