4 Children Killed & 42 People Displaced in Horrific Massive Fire in Philadelphia

The fourth of July is supposed to be a fun, memorable holiday for families. But the day ended in tragedy for many in one Philadelphia neighborhood when a massive, fast-moving fire ripped through several rowhouses and killed 4 young children.

The fire reportedly started at around 2:45 a.m. in one home -- and the cause of the blaze is still unknown. The houses on the block were attached, so it isn't surprising that the fire rapidly spread through several homes, completely destroying 8 houses by the time firefighters arrived.

But homes can be rebuilt. The real horror here is that 4 children died in the fire -- the oldest was 4 years old and the youngest was just 1 month old. These young victims reportedly lived in a house with 6 other people, the rest of whom survived the blaze.

The entire community is obviously mourning the loss of these innocent angels, while continuing to deal with the circumstances of their own unfortunate situation. Though I'm sure they are grateful to be alive today, 42 people have been displaced and many of them have taken refuge at a Red Cross shelter that has been set up at a local high school. Four injuries have been reported, but no other details have been provided yet.

Investigators are continuing to look into the cause of the fire and we will provide more details as they are released.
