Texas Hunter Pays $350,000 to Slaughter Beautiful Endangered Animal

black rhinoA hunter from Texas has "won" a lottery to pay $350,000 to go to Namibia and kill a black rhino. Ever since Corey Knowlton's name was released, he says HE feels like the one being hunted. Ironic, isn't it?

The black rhino is one of the most endangered species on the planet. In fact, there are only 4,000 black rhinos left. Those who defend the controversial hunting auction that sold the permit to the highest bidder say it will ultimately save the species. The money will go toward conservation. But that is not stopping people from wanting to kill Knowlton. And who could blame them for being angry?

The man wants to slaughter an old, male member of a species that is so endangered, it might be wiped off the planet. That's a "sport"? That's this guy's idea of a good time? Maybe he needs a new hobby.

I am no PETA lover. I think most of what that group does is ridiculous and over the top. I would always put the life of humans ahead of animals in almost every scenario. But in this case, we are talking about killing a beautiful animal, not out of necessity or need, but for fun. It's wrong. It's evil.

By all means, go to Africa on a photo safari. Support wildlife funds and, if you have a spare $350,000, donate it to conservation efforts. But don't do so under the guise of wanting to "help" animals when all you want to do is kill then. These majestic creatures will be gone and selfish, horrible people like Knowlton will be one of the reasons.

It's beyond sickening.

It's not just bad for the animal, either. It's bad for all Americans. What selfish, myopic, horrible people must we be if we hold auctions like this? We go into a country that isn't ours where we could be HELPING to preserve this Earth and instead we help rape it further.

I am not advocating sending death threats to the man. But he is misguided and more than a little pathetic. The excuse that these are older, non-breeding animals isn't really one that holds a lot of weight. I wonder how he can look in the mirror. What a despicable human. Personally, I'd rather hang out with the black rhino.

Do you support an auction like this?
