Miss Uzbekistan Mystery: 'Imposter' Beauty Queen Raises Eyebrows & Ire (VIDEO)

Rakhima GanievaJust when you thought beauty pageants were boring, along comes one with a crazy twist. Rakhima Ganieva is Miss Uzbekistan, representing the country in the upcoming 2013 Miss World contest ... or so she says.  The problem -- no one in Uzbekistan has ever heard of her, nor has the country ever had a contest to name a Miss Uzbekistan.

So who exactly is she, and how did she get in the Miss World contest? No one knows, and no one is happy about it.

Oh she looks great on paper and in a video for Miss World in which she talks about how she loves tennis and traveling, her plans to be a lawyer, and how she really wants to win the contest. However, once this mystery is solved, she may need her own lawyer.

According to The Telegraph, the school she says she attended has no record of her. Both the Uzbek Culture and Sports Ministry and the national committee on women have said that anyone representing themselves as Miss Uzbekistan is an imposter. The daughter of the country's president, Gulnara Karimova, has called her a "Tajik-looking girl" who "appeared out of nowhere".

Zhavlon Komolov, a representative of the Tashkent-based Pro Models modeling agency, where Ganieva briefly trained as a 15-year-old, harshly told EURASIANET.org:

If there had been a process to choose a young lady for this competition, I can assure you that a much more beautiful model would have been chosen. I'm sorry that Ganieva is choosing to build a career on lies.

Ouch! She clearly does not have a country full of fans at home.

There are so many questions here. Did she really lie her way into the contest? If so, how is that possible? And if so, how delusional would someone have to be to think they could away with this? Maybe she has a good explanation, but it's hard to imagine what it could be.

For now she remains on the Miss World website, and the organization has not commented on the mystery. Hopefully somebody will get to the bottom of this before the September 28 pageant.

What do you think is going on here?
