Paula Deen Being Accused of Several Horrible, Racist Things

Paula DeenDon't let that sweet-as-pie demeanor fool you. If a former employee is to be believed, Paula Deen has been accused of sexual and racial discrimination. That is what a $1.2 million lawsuit by Lisa Jackson, a former manager of the cooking queen's Savannah, Georgia restaurant, alleges. Specifics of the case were recently released in the National Enquirer and they are crazier than you ever imagined. Take a look at Jackson's most jaw-dropping claims.

  1. Jackson says Deen and her brother Bubba Hiers made racist jokes. When asked about it during the deposition, the popular chef reportedly replied, "It’s just what they are -- they’re jokes ... most jokes are about Jewish people, rednecks, black folks ... I can’t determine what offends another person.”
  2. Using the N-word. During questioning, she reportedly didn't deny this either, stating, "Yes, of course."
  3. Jackson also claims Hiers sexually harassed her several times.
  4. Deen planned a slavery-themed wedding for a client. According to alleged highlights from the deposition printed in the National Enquirer

[W]hen asked if she wanted black men to play the role of slaves at a wedding she explained she got the idea from a restaurant her husband and her had dined at saying, “The whole entire waiter staff was middle-aged black men, and they had on beautiful white jackets with a black bow tie.

“I mean, it was really impressive. That restaurant represented a certain era in America ... after the Civil War, during the Civil War, before the Civil War ... It was not only black men, it was black women ... I would say they were slaves.”

Not surprisingly, her reps deny the story. I have long been a fan of Deen and it's hard to believe that all of this is true. But if it is, how could she think this kind of behavior would be kept secret? Even worse, how could she believe it was even remotely acceptable?

Do you think these claims are true?
