Dad Arrested for Driving Drunk After Scared Kids Text 911 From Car

kids text 911 for help after dad drives them drunkIt sounds like one father tried to get a dangerous head-start on his vacation partying, but fortunately, his savvy kids put a stop to it. Twelve-year-old Ethan and 14-year-old Mackenzie Behrens were forced to text 911 to stop their dad from driving drunk while they were traveling with him to Colorado for vacation.

The frightened kids recalled how they narrowly avoided multiple accidents before convincing their dad to pull over for food. It was there that police were able to catch up with Jason Behrens -- whose breathalyzer test revealed he had nearly three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system -- and rescue these scared youngsters.

Thankfully, these siblings were smart and brave enough to do something before they or other innocent victims were harmed by the recklessness of this man.

Making this story that much more heartbreaking is the fact that this wasn't the first time the kids say their dad got behind the wheel while intoxicated with them in the car.

Still, their story is an important message for other kids. Just because you might be young, that doesn't mean you don't have the power to keep yourself and others safe.

Thanks to education and technology, this brother-sister pair is safe. While it's never easy to stand up to a grown-up, especially your own parent, doing so may very well have saved their lives, and they should be hailed as heroes!
