Mom Plows into Vegas Strip With 3-Year-Old Sleeping in the Backseat

A woman plowed into the sidewalk on the Las Vegas strip late on Sunday night, killing one and injuring more than 30 others. The craziest and maybe saddest part of the story is that she was a mom, and her 3-year-old daughter was sleeping in the backseat.

While authorities originally thought that it might have been an act of terrorism, it turns out that 24-year-old Lakeisha Holloway may have just been overly tired, and not completely aware of what she was doing.

According to the police report, the mom had been trying to sleep inside her car with her toddler all day, but "kept getting run off by security of the properties she stopped at." She was so out of it that she apparently told the authorities that the only thing she remembered was a body bouncing off her windshield.

The police believe the act to be intentional, however, and she's being held on one count of murder with the use of a deadly weapon. According to the sheriff, Holloway didn't appear to be "distressed" by the ordeal. She was also tested for drug and alcohol use. The sheriff said, "The video [of the incident] obviously shows intention."

I don't know what happened here, but I do know that sleep deprivation can cause people to do some pretty crazy things. No, I don't think she should be let off the hook -- someone died. But I know I would like to know more about her story, including why she had her daughter in the car with her.

If she got run off of several properties, why didn't anyone give her the number of a women's shelter? There are places to go that can help. She had a 3-year-old in the car, for Pete's sake. It sounds like she needed help.

This whole situation is absolutely tragic, and I hope they get to the bottom of what happened.
