Homeowner Association Tells Family to Change the Color of Their Swing Set -- Or Risk Jail Time

Buying a home is often considered the American Dream, but it can quickly turn into a nightmare if you go against the grain. This is the reality for one Missouri family that has been threatened with additional fines and jail because of a purple playset.

Yes, jail time!

Marla Stout is a mom dealing with this unthinkable situation -- and she deserves an "A" for patience. She put a playset in her backyard for her daughters, ages 5 and 8, to use. Although it's nestled within her property's fence and a series of trees, Marla's homeowners association claims she needed pre-approval to use the color purple and has zero problem taking her to court over the matter.

Speaking with Fox & Friends, Marla explained how she has tried her best to work with her homeowners association to mend the situation -- including suggestions on colors to paint the swing set.

"There’s nothing in the rules about color," Marla says. "What it says is it has to be harmonious with the community and with nature and there is nothing that dictates the color of the swing set."

Where do you even begin with such foolishness? Should this family and others also go outside with a measuring tape to make sure their grass is kept no more than four inches from the ground? Yes, moving into a community with a homeowners association can be annoying as there are rules in place, but to threaten jail time over a swing set is pretty ridiculous.

My question is, who do they expect to do the hard time: the mom who wanted to make her children happy, or one of the little girls who just wanted to get her swing on in the backyard?
