Craigslist Ad for ‘Demon’ Dog Has to Be a Joke (We Hope)

An ad on Craigslist on Monday, April 6 has left us scratching our heads, and possibly slightly worried for somebody's pet. Someone listed an ad for a "FREE Demon / Rat hybrid," along with a description of the reportedly nightmarish pooch.

Take a look at what this person had to say about the canine in question:

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be constantly attacked and growled at? To spend your day cleaning urine out of diapers, carpet, blankets, mattresses, chairs, recliners, walls, corners, anything vertical or horizontal? To hear a high pitched finger nails on a chalkboard yap anytime anyone is near or far or thinking about the area you are in? You are now in luck free demon / rat hybrid for anyone willing to take. Good home not necessary.

OK ... along with the description are a few photos, as well as some listed "bonuses" including, "He is now covered in extremely contagious fungus," "His fur is always covered in urine and poop down his butt fur," and "He will bite/ kill anyone / thing he can; recent victims include a handsome Detective who was closing in on him, small animals, large animals, children, adults."

The Stir reached out for comment from the individual who posted the ad, but our inquires went unanswered. So let's just sit back an wonder what prompted this person to list their pup with such derogatory verbiage.

One option is that it's all a joke. Like that time you posted on Facebook about wanting to sell your kids on Craigslist (be wary of actually doing that though, it could get you arrested). Maybe this person was just trying to be funny and clever about it ... but it sort of fell flat if that's the case.

Another option is that this is a vent, plain and simple. Anyone who's had pets know they can be a pain in the butt sometimes, and test our last nerves occasionally. My dog had a bladder infection last year that affected her control in that department, and I thought I'd lose my mind there for awhile. Even though I love her to pieces, I'd be lying if I said there weren't a few friends who received texts that were not very flattering to my furbaby.

Or could it be a jilted ex who was left with a pooch they never particularly wanted or cared for? Maybe this listing was a way to get back at someone for leaving, and not taking their untrained dog with them?

We're just hoping that it's not the last option -- that this dog owner genuinely despises the pet, and meant every word of what they wrote. If that's the case, we hope that they find a no-kill shelter or rescue group who will be able to find him a more suitable home.

Pets can be such a blessing in our lives, but sometimes it's just not a good fit. This seems to be one of those times, for whatever reason.
