Nightmare-Inducing 'Wasco Clown' Terrorizes Town in Worst Prank Ever (VIDEO)

Wasco clown

Where do you stand on clowns? Okay I feel like that was the setup to a really lame joke my third-grader would tell (“On their red noses!”), but what I want to know is whether or not you’re scared of clowns. That’s a real thing, by the way, defined by Wikipedia as coulrophobia, the fear of clowns. I’m pretty anti-clown, personally, thanks to notorious effed-up clowns like Stephen King’s Pennywise and real-life monster John Wayne Gacy, and here’s somebody who isn’t doing anything to improve the reputations of innocent children-pleasing clowns around the world: the Wasco clown of California.

Basically, somebody is dressing up like a horrifying clown and showing up around various places in Wasco, California, in order to scare the crap out of the people who live there. Not only is this person’s clown costume creepy as hell, he or she has inspired other clown pranksters to walk around brandishing WEAPONS.

The “Wasco Clown” has an Instagram account that I did NOT enjoy sifting through in order to report on this story, thank you very much. The account shows various photos of someone dressed as a clown, at night, holding balloons (“We all float down here, Henry! You’ll float too!” AIEEEEEE), and posting things that insinuate there’s more than one person involved in the prank. Behold:

In Wasco, people seem to be treating the clown like a quasi-celebrity, driving around at night searching for him (WHY) and posing for selfies (ARGH NO DON’T GET SO CLOSE TO HIS FACE). But in the nearby community of Bakersfield, police say they've had at least 16 reports of clowns holding weapons. According to a Bakersfield cop,

We've been having sightings all over the city. They range from anywhere from a guy carrying a gun to a guy carrying a knife running up to houses.

A 14-year-old boy was even arrested and booked into juvenile hall last Thursday after admitting he dressed up like a clown to scare school children once he saw the social media buzz.

The Wasco clown is reportedly part of an “art project” from a husband and wife who mean no harm, don’t condone violence, but do plan to post new freaky clown images throughout the month. Well! That’s just ... I ... Okay, I’ve run out of words. Let these gif images represent my feelings about this entire story, from the Wasco couple to whatever’s happening in Bakersfield.

What do you think about the “Wasco clown”? Would you pretty much die of fright if you encountered him/her?
