I don't know if you got the chance to see all the fabulous and fabuloony outfits the ladies were wearing at the Kentucky Derby this weekend, but for me, there was one major standout: The late model Anna Nicole Smith's daughter Dannielynn Hope Marshall Birkhead's Mary Poppins costume won the Derby.

She wore a white dress with red ribbons just like Julie Andrews' character in the Disney film -- complete with matching parasol. And daddy Larry Birkhead wore a matching striped costume as Bert. Larry says the costumes were Dannielynn's own idea, too. He tweeted a photo of the Mary Poppins dolls that inspired their Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious costumes.

A tragic gun accident in Cumberland County, Kentucky, left a toddler dead. A 5-year-old boy shot and killed his 2-year-old sister with a .22 caliber rifle. Apparently the rifle was leaning in a corner while the children's mother was cleaning house. She stepped outside for a few minutes, which is when her son picked up the firearm and accidentally shot his sister.

It was the 5-year-old's gun, a Crickett "My First Rifle" he'd been given as a gift last year.

I'm under no illusions that my own child behaves like a perfect angel when he goes over to friends' houses for play dates. I really am trying to raise a civilized child, and it's not easy. But man, sometimes when we host a playdate I can't help but wonder if some kids are actually being raised by wolves! Here are 12 kinds of kids we dread having over for a playdate. I just hope to God my son never does any of this when he's out of my sight.

When my youngest son was maybe 2 years old, he crept outside our bedroom door very early one morning while my husband and I were still asleep. I awoke to a deadpan, tiny voice whispering, "Let her in. Let. Her. In. Let her in," over and over and over.

Turns out the cat was pawing at the back door, and he was just informing us it was time to, you know, let her in. But holy shitballs, that wasn't even remotely my first thought. (My first thought was vampires, okay? IT WAS VAMPIRES.)

That was a legitimately spooky moment, but it doesn't even hold a (flickering, ghostly) candle to this hair-raising Reddit thread titled, "Parents, what is the creepiest thing your young child has ever said to you?" Clocking in at over 11,000 comments, the forum is filled with an amazing array of stories ranging from hilariously weird to downright terrifying.

To say that 7-year-old Aldrich Lloyd Talonding has a voice like an angel is not just a cliched overstatement. Hearing the words come out of his mouth will blow you away, plain and simple.

A video of the elementary school boy from the Philippines singing Luther Vandross' song "Dance With My Father" while his cousin, James, accompanies him on the guitar has gone viral, wowing people around the world. Watch it after the jump, and you'll see why.

Stress is something we all have to deal with, no matter what our age, although some of us are clearly more capable of handling it than others.

And since kids are so resilient, they're often able to cope with it better, or at least one 6-year-old little girl knows how. The younger sister of Ltravis, a Reddit user, found what appears to be a little booklet entitled, "Positive Ways Our Family Handles Stress" in the waiting room of a doctor's office.

Her response to it is honestly one of the most hilarious things you'll ever see.

Military dad of four Phillip Patrick has been away at naval base Kitsap for eight months. The last time he saw his youngest child was 24 hours after the baby was born. But the child who'd had the most trouble with Patrick's absence is his son Jaxin. So when Patrick returned, he made a special surprise visit -- to Jaxin's math class!

I think the boy's teacher must have spotted Patrick sneak into the room, because right at that moment, she called on Jaxin to come up in front of the class and demonstrate something about the math lesson. Jaxin still doesn't see his dad until he's at the front of the room and calls out his name. And then -- oh, you just have to see it.

Every week Gwyneth Paltrow promotes her Goop exclusive, limited-edition clothing your fishmonger cannot afford, and there's always some complaining about $500 headbands or some such. But holy vegenaise, people were bitching about something totally unexpected last week: Melissa Odabash bikinis for girls ages 4 through 8. For some people, that's dangerous business.

A child abuse prevention group called Kidscape says Goop's kiddie bikinis sexualize children. "We remain very opposed to the sexualization of children and of childhood. The dangers have been discussed at length, so it is a great pity that such trends continue and that they carry celebrity endorsement," says a spokesman for the group. Seriously? Little girls have been wearing bikinis forever and it's perfectly innocent.

If I had to do it all over again just to make money, I think I would run an after-school program for grade schoolers. It's incredible to see the military-like efficiency with which parents and babysitters swoop in at pick-up to extricate their charges and re-route them to their next stops. Gymnastics, piano, fencing, karate, Kumon, soccer, yoga, robotics, tap, voice lessons, Italian ... you name it.

This is not a bad thing, mind you. I think it's great. Why not learn as much as you can always? And the kids love it. Except for one, that is: Mine.

My daughter has decided that after school she wants to do nothing. She is tired of having more classes after her long school day. She doesn't want to be signed up for another semester of ballet -- she's more of a hip hopper anyway -- and passed up architecture and drama, even when her pals were all in.
