Surprising College Drop-Outs

Facebook logoWow, can you believe the creator of the insanely popular Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, didn't even graduate from college?

Check out the list of Most Surprising College Drop-Outs (with photos) over on HuffPo. The list also includes musician Lady Gaga, filmmaker James Cameron, and comedian Ellen DeGeneres.

I point out this story NOT so you can show your teens who think they don't want to go to college. I show you this story so you don't feel hopeless if your graduated teens have already chosen not to go to college (or soon will).

If you have a bright, industrious, hard-working child (or, truthfully, sometimes even far less), there is still hope for them to find success. College isn't the only way (but don't tell them that if they're still deciding; just tell yourself if you're worrying about it).

Do you have child who doesn't want to or decide not to go to college?

Love the fact Bill Gates was a college dropout.  Not sure why... I think because it worked for him!

Most important thing for a teen/young adult to consider when dropping out is what they plan to do once they quit.  Quitting is fine, as long as there is a plan, and it is the right plan.

So did Steve Jobs. . . CEO of Apple Inc!

A college education isn't as important now as it was back in our parents' (or even our) day....if you've got good ideas, you can go places.  Some people are born with it.  If you're going to work for yourself, you set he rules.

But c'mon, Lady Gaga? Seriously?  The fact SHE dropped out of college is surprising? Please explain to me how that's surprising...I'd be surprised to find out she graduated high school for crying out loud.

I WILL STRONGLY encourage my child to at least get his bachelor's degree...I believe education is VERY important and it's something NO ONE can take away from you!!!!!!

Mine are not old enough to decide yet about college. We will encourage them to go, of course. However, as someone with an advanced degree, sitting here unemployed, I know that finishing college doesn't assure you a job.
