Freaking, grinding, rubbing private parts together. This is how today's kids dance, and the trend is so alarming that a number of high schools across the country are coming up with creative ways to stop dirty dancing, according to a post on The Frisky.
Some of the ways schools are trying to make school dances a little less X-rated:
- Asking students to sign pledges or contracts;
- Threatening to play bad music;
- Launching a "dance like Grandma is watching" campaign;
- Postponing dances indefinitely.
A writer on Parent Dish says the best way to thwart lewd dancing would be to ask a dozen or so adults and chaperones to join the dance floor and start grinding as soon as this behavior is spotted. Right now the visual of my former science teacher and the librarian getting down and dirty on the dance floor is making me nauseous so I'm guessing this would work really, really well.
Do you allow your tween or teen to grind and freak? Do you consider it simulated sex or harmless kid hormones?

I'm not for it, not at all. I mean... it really is like enacting 'the act' right out there in public.
On a side note I think asking the teachers to dirty dance too, might have some negative issues like.... if the girls are crushing pretty hard on Mr. Mathteacher and then they see him grinding up against the librarian, that kind of behaviour could be reinforced.
Ha! The idea of getting the adults out on the floor is pretty funny, but you'd have to strategically choose your adults.. I can imagine some over the age of 60 adults grinding it up would have an effect on students, but I can also imagine parents objecting strongly.
I'm definitely not a fan, but I don't know if any of those ideas are the solution. Getting some more parents than just teachers out at dances could help, particularly in smaller towns where everyone knows each other.
I don't have teenagers currently but I am sure I would not like the idea of it when they are teenagers. It kind of makes my stomach hurt a little bit.
