It's like a real-life version of Footloose at a public school in Wisconsin. The school has made headlines for banning "dirty dancing."
Many parents and teachers have complained about the "grinding" type of dance, saying it simulates sex while students say banning it is infringing their constitutional rights.

What are your thoughts on the "grinding" form of dancing? Should it be banned at high school functions or just let the kids be kids...we were all teenagers at one time (though, when I was a teen, the Macarena was the hot dance move...not quite so risque).

I am all for banning it.
All banning something does is make them want to do it more...People need to get over it and let the kids be kids...I'd rather they be grinding against each other than actually having sex... My son is 7 soon to be 8 next month, so I have a long way to go before we hit this stage, but when it comes, I hope I can be as open minded as I am now.
It may make them want to do it more, but it will also allow teachers at those dances to step in and say something, and as a soon to be high school teacher, that's important to me. Additionally, don't think that just because they're only grinding at the dance doesn't mean they aren't having sex afterward.
Ummm. . . have you SEEN some of the kids at high school --nay, MIDDLE SCHOOL dances? It's like acting out sex on the floor! I'm not talking about Footloose. I'm not talking about Dirty Dancing. I'm talking straight up, "bumpin' uglies." I had to chaperone a middle school dance, once (I was an assistant that got volunteered). I had to pull this little guy off of a girl, who was all but giving her oral sex. . .YES, he was dancing with his face in her crotch. I thought I was going to vomit. It was all over the place with that school.
I say, good for them.
I remember middle school and high school dances where everyone was "bumpin uglies" so to speak. I honestly don't think sex starts there though. What disgusts me more is parents who teach their little girls how to dance that way by example. I mean, check out youtube, it's everywhere. It's also disgusting to know that alot of these parents aren't talking about sex to their kids. If you want you're kids to make the right choices in life, you really have to talk to them. From baby to young adult, you just have to keep talking, whether it seems like they're listening or not.
Banning it is not going to solve anything, if anything, it will make the problem worse. We did that kind of dancing when I was in high school, big deal. It's just dancing. There was some sort of "crack down" when I was in high school too, and we DID IT ANYWAY. We would form a dance circle and take turns, we could block the chaperones view hahaha and if someone was coming we would warn eachother and break it up. Kids are not stupid. They will do as they please. Instead of worrying about dancing that you you think LOOKS like sex, there should be more focus on teaching useful sex ed.
Absolutely, ban it. Why is this even an argument? Schools have every right to address inappropriate behavior on school property. If it would not be appropriate to rub up on each other like that in the hallways or in the classroom why is it appropriate in the gym during a dance? If it were trying to ban grinding at private parties or clubs that would be violating constitutional rights- not this, come on people. As long as they don't go overboard with like not letting someone graduate because they got in trouble for the way they were dancing of course. But teachers definitely need to be able to step in and tell them to stop dancing that way.
I do not think it should be banned. Every generation thinks the next is worst, and it probably is but let the kids have fun. It's dancing ! It we get messing with the school dances kids will stop going, at least there we know where they are and they are superivised.
good!
I am okay with banning it.
