It's hard enough raising one teen -- but three?! Welcome to RAZmom88's wild and wonderful life this week.
A Dreaded Call
It started like any other school morning. Wednesday. 5:45 a.m. I drove Andrea, 18, to school. I returned home and woke Zack, my 15 year old, who then showered and dressed. I used the lint roller on the cat hair stuck to Zack and his backpack. Zack doesn't like whe his back then becomes covered in hair for all to see at school.
While he was eating his Fruit Loops, I asked him if he had a ride to school or if I needed to drive him. He said he didn't know, but just then, his friend pulled up in his SUV. We talked and joked for a minute before they left at 7 a.m.
Seven minutes later, the phone rang.
The boys had hit a patch of ice and had spun into oncoming traffic, hitting another car head on. They were less then a half-mile from the house.
You'd never guess it from that picture, but miraculously no one was injured.
Every Minute Counts
I ran to my car and drove to the scene, arriving at least 10 minutes before the police. Zack was sitting in the back seat,to keep warm. I was so happy to see him. He didn't protest as I hugged and kissed him.
I am so grateful to God for keeping my son safe. This is a reminder of how precious life is and how quickly things can change. Both boys were wearing seat belts and the airbags did their job. I do not live in fear of what could happen to my kids, but I do want to enjoy being their mom. I want them to know every minute of every day how precious their life is to me. I can't change God's plan to call me me or one of them home, but I can control what we do with the time we have together. Hug your kids; tell them you love them.
Today is Ryan's 19th birthday. He's coming home from college to celebrate with us and watch the Super Bowl on the 42-inch flat screen we got for Christmas. I don't know much about the game, but I do know that my children -- all three of my children -- and their friends will be there. Hot wings for everyone.
++++
Have you ever experienced a scary moment like this involving your kids, or a moment when you realized how quickly life can take a turn?

Did you make him go to school after that ?
OMGosh sooooo scary! I'm so glad everyone is okay. Have a wonderful weekend!
Scary! I am glad to hear that both your son and his friend are ok! Happy Birthday to your oldest son! I hope you all have a great celebrating!
I totaled my parents care in 07 when we were in South Carolina visiting my then fiance. My poor parents, I didn't know where I was and they had no real way of getting to where I was. My dad ended up borrowing the hotel clerk's truck (gotta love the friendly South!) and driving toward the base to find me. That, I'm sure, was pretty traumatizing for them.
Man, I am so glad he was okay! But I will say you brought tears to my eyes! I just hugged my little one and want to drive over to my son's house to hug him as well!
I am so glad that your teen and his friend are safe!! To answer your question, yes. About 7 years ago one of my close friends was hit head on by a drunk driver. She was pulled from the car just before her car and the other one exploded. The drunk driver burned to death....no one could get to him....Sarah heard him screaming for help as he burned alive. Her legs were crushed, affer 3 months in the hospital she got to come home. She had to learn to walk again, has had numerous surgeries and still has not recovered 100%. It was a very hard time for her as well as all of us. Before we never made a habit of having a DD when we went out, now we make sure. Drunk driving is not something to play around with. Unfortantly, the drunk drver who hit her died. It makes you think about life and to put things into perspective.
yeah I can honestly say I've been in your situation. My oldest flipped the F 1-50 truck into a ditch on a 2 lane road and had to bust out the window to crawl out. then my daughter was saved by the air bags in my van .... seeing the accident scenes on both of these was enough to give me white hair-forget grey! I over hug my kids all the time but after stuff like this happens it makes you glad you took the time to tell your child just one more time that you loved them! I KNOW God had a hand in our crashes as they'd both been total wrecks. makes me shudder to remember the scenes I saw.
glad all is well with your children...so scary
a year ago jan 24 2009 two days before my youngest boy's 5 b-day he was involved in a sledding accident. he had a slight skull fracture and he also fractured his left femur (upper leg bone) and had to spend 25 days in traction at the hospital followed by 2wks in a cast and then had to relearn to walk. ugh...worst two months of my life. but at least he's still here and thats all that counts :)
