Every year for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, my mom would dress my sister and I up in what she called our "special holiday dresses."
Oh how I hated that. I was such a little tomboy and the idea of putting on itchy tights and a bow that never stayed in place made me quite the holiday Grinch (at least until it was time to eat Thanksgiving dinner or open presents).
However, looking back at family holiday photos, my sister and I did look pretty darn cute, and I now understand why my mom tortured us insisted that we dress up.
I mean, just look at this photo from Celeb Baby and lilysmommy8503's picture...how great do those kids look?
Do you make your kids dress up for the holidays?

No, they always end up running around outside, their clothes would end up getting ripped or dirty! Of course I have all boys and they are still little. Maybe when they are older, I'll ask them to be nice to mom and put on a nice shirt.....
I dressed my sson up in a cute little suit last year. He was about 14 months old and within the 1st 5 minutes of him wearing it he threw up all over it. Never again will he wear a suit for the holidays! LOL! This year I'm going to put him in some nice jeans or khakis and either a button up shirt or a holiday tee shirt. =)
For thanksgiving no, but Christmas and Easter oh yeah they dress up! THey actually have multiple Christmas outfits this year, though hopefully my daughter will be wearing my old CHristmas dress on Christmas Ever! I think that that should look nice for holidays. Plus we go to church on those days so they would have to dress anyway!
We don't go anywhere so there's no need to dress up, although my kids enjoy it. Even my son puts on a nice button down shirt and the girls find some nice dresses or outfits. It's up to them. It's up to them. All I ask is that they actually get dressed, aren't in their pajamas and don't throw a fit.
I don't make them dress up in anything uncomfortable (I'm not all that frou frou myself and I feel like if I wouldn't be comfortable in it I'm not going to ask my kids to wear it) but I do put 'nicer' clothes on them on holidays. This generally means a shirt with a collar and jeans or cords for ds and simple dresses/tights for the girls (no taffeta, no beadwork- just some variety of dress.) My kids don't mind dressing up, but my son hates the obligatory 'family pic' I make him participate in every holiday... so I have years of pics of him looking angry! LOL!
I make them dress up to a point. We usually just stay home and have family over. It is pretty casual, but they do wear holiday clothes or something else that is nice but less formal.
Not for Thanksgiving, but definitely for Christmas and Easter. When we make it home for the holidays (like this year!) we have several holiday functions, so that normally means several dresses. We have two Christmas parties with my mom's side of the family, then we have Christmas Eve with my husband's family and we have Christmas day. This year I have two dresses and a pants outfit for DD. Love dressing her up! But I also dress her up for church on a regular basis.
I have them dress up but comfort is a big consideration when I pick out clothes. no polyester allowed. I dress them up for their Santa picture and church, so on.
Nope, waste of money, energy and time- they're going to spill something on themselves or get dirty running around. I make sure they look "respectable" as my grandmother put it, but not overdressed. Plus, how uncomfortable would that be? ugh, I don't want to get dressed up while I cook a turkey, and I"m sure they don't want to be dressed up while they eat one, lol....
No, some of the kids like to wear green or red on christmas but thats it. I don't dress up at all. lol
